A preposterous fable
(novel length, but short, at 200+ pages with illustrations), this book is
literally tattooed with a running pictorial commentary that propels the
text forward. The whole book is done by hand, including a text with
letters in a hand-printed font. The plot involves the deterioration or
invigoration (depending on how one looks at it) of society through the
gradual and very plausible introduction of thinking, educated, articulate
animals (much more believable than those in the TV ads) who eventually
take over and save the world from the ultimate doom the human race seems
determined to achieve.
There is a massive dolphin conspiracy through which these aquatic
mammals (much brighter than humans) control the course of all significant
human activity. A three-color scheme (black, brilliant red and white) for
text and illustrations intensifies the comic drama of this perhaps
improbable tale. A perfect Christmas gift, albeit a book for all seasons.
