In the days before terrorism
became a fashionable threat, Sanjuan searched for sardine cans in
supermarkets. The bottoms of the cans had to be free of blemishes or
stamped numbers and "made in Norway" markings. On these tin can
plates, Sanjuan etched in drypoint a series of extremely fine scenes of
completely mysterious origin, all equally enigmatic and perplexing.
The ink he used was a reddish brown. |
