The enemy is
the Soviet Union and its advanced military deployments in eastern Europe, or is
it? It is not! The enemy is the CIA, competing fiercely to destroy
incompetent U.S. military intelligence operations everywhere in order to become
the only intelligence gathering outfit for the U.S. Government. The
interrogation of Communist defectors is secondary to the silly, but funny,
shenanigans of a Keystone Cops naval outfit and its Army and Air Force
counterparts plotting against each other except when conspiring to defeat the
minions of the CIA. It is illustrated by the author in a style designed to
accentuate the simplistic confusion of the All-American gumshoes.

It should appeal to anyone
who missed (for chronological reasons) the adventures of Ernest Borgnine, Joe Flynn and Tim Conway in the TV series McHale’s Navy. Those who
can still remember that classic series may want to read this update in a still more
incongruous setting. Ages 14 to 97 (older readers should consult a physician
about the lasting effects of spasmodic laughter). |
